What if someone told you that staying positive in business is as easy as a personal attitude shift? We all know that having a happy life, you have to achieve a healthy work-life balance. But honestly, who really achieves that? And if they do, how long does it hold up for? Let me give you a hint, very few do, and it’s short-lasting.
Working in sales requires you to always be on your game and can often be draining mentally. Because of this, you must take steps every day to put your mental health first. Hint number two, focusing on this, will translate into being more motivated and productive in your job. Sound too good to be true? It’s not. Here are some hints for how to promote positive in your life and improve your mental health.
Set goals for yourself and write them out.
Having *achievable* goals is essential. Having goals set out in front of you to be able to see and track visually will help keep you motivated. Bust out that #2 pencil, or pen, and handwrite some goals. Think about the 5, 5, 5 plan. What do you want to do in the next five days? How about the next five months? Where do you want to be in the next five years? (Feel free to pick a different time increment that works best for you.) Pin it up somewhere that you see daily and do a mental check-in to see where you’re at. Visually seeing these regularly will help keep you motivated and moving forward toward achieving those goals.
Laugh, every single day.
How often do you laugh? If you’re not consistently laughing, then there is room for improvement. Laughing is good for the soul and your mental health! Need a little help with sparking the laughter? Here are some easy ways to raise those cheeks
- watch funny videos on YouTube
- watch a comedy you love
- listen to an entertaining podcast
- reach out to that one weird friend (you know we all have one)
- spend time with pets
- talk in a funny accent
- crank up some music and belt some tunes
The options are endless, but the bottom line remains, getting those endorphins rolling and laughter belting will undoubtedly help your mental health!
Listen to music.
Believe it or not, music has many psychological benefits! Music reduces anxiety and improves your mood. I’d call that a win! If you’re feeling overwhelmed or down, turn on some positive tunes, and your spirit is sure to shift for the positive.
Make mistakes, and choose to learn from them.
Listen, you’re human, so you’re going to make mistakes. The trick is to decide to accept them, own them, and choose to learn from them!
Prioritize personal time.
Make sure you prioritize personal time in your life. There will always be another sale. If you’re not making personal time a priority, you will undoubtedly have a burnout.
Build relationships that inspire and motivate you.
They say it takes a village. Whether you believe this or not, having a strong foundation with people that motivate you can be a game-changer. Think about the inner circle you keep. Whether it’s your personal or professional circle, make sure you have positive, inspiring, supportive people to keep you on track and moving forward.
