First off, this is clearly uncharted territory for us all. That said, let’s show each other a little grace as we all operate and deal with stress differently.
COVID-19 has completely turned lives upside down. Businesses have closed, people are quarantined, many lives have been lost and forever changed. Most never dreamed of us being where we are today, yet we are and it’s important we are mindful that things are fluid and will continue to change in the coming days, weeks and months.
What can we do? With much out of our control, it’s important to focus on the little things that we can control. And believe it or not, there are many things we can control!
Keep communicating. Studies show that keeping in touch with friends, loved ones and colleagues throughout these times can keep stress levels lower and help to keep people connected. Thankfully today we have a plethora of options to stay in touch with people. Forget texting, pick up the phone and phone a friend! Have a longtime friend you have been meaning to catch up with and haven’t? Now’s a perfect time. Talk about great memories, share stories about your life and your loved ones. All of these things will help to spark joy and bring that anxiety and stress level down.
We are all in this together. Some of us are fairing better than others. No matter our circumstances, we all have the ability and opportunity to help others. Whether it be buying something and having it delivered to someone in need to offering to run an errand (while observing social distancing), there are options. Simply checking in on someone who may be struggling can help to brighten their day and offer support. With so many small businesses struggling, it’s more important now than ever to support them. Most areas have started social media conversations to recognize businesses that are still open. Check these out! Order delivery for dinner. Continue to go to appointments where it is deemed safe. Think creatively to continue to support these small businesses that are our community.
Are you a small business that has been forced to shut down? Time to think outside of the box. Can you offer a virtual service? Can you set up e-commerce to sell online? We can work with you to think outside the box keep things running amidst the shutdowns all over the world.
Our coming days are unknown and that is an unsettling feeling for all. Let’s focus on the little things that we can control to keep spirits up for ourselves and the ones we love.
Sending warm wishes of patience, happiness, and health to you and yours.
